A few things happening around the Netherlands right now.
September is a very good month for festivals and events in the Netherlands, especially because summer events continue while autumn events start.
Here are some of the notable September 2026 events:
Major September 2026 events
1. Open Monumentendag — 12–13 September
One of the biggest nationwide cultural weekends. Around 6,000 monuments across the Netherlands open their doors, many for free. The 2026 edition is the 40th anniversary.
2. Prinsjesfestival — The Hague, 9–15 September
A festival around Prinsjesdag and Dutch democracy, with markets, performances, poetry, discussions and other activities. For example, the PrinsjesMarkt at the Hofvijver is on 12 September and is free.
3. Amsterdam Fringe Festival — 3–13 September
A large performing-arts festival in Amsterdam with theatre, performance, dance and experimental shows. It is particularly good if you want something different from the usual tourist events.
4. Dam tot Damloop — 19–20 September
A major running event between Amsterdam and Zaandam. Amsterdam’s official calendar lists the events for 19–20 September 2026.
5. TAPT Festival Amsterdam West — 17–19 September
Outdoor festival in Rembrandtpark with food, music and social activities.
6. Ambacht in Beeld Festival — 26–27 September
At NDSM in Amsterdam, with crafts, workshops and masterclasses from craftspeople from the Netherlands and abroad.
